Is it twins?

The weekend after the 2nd prenatal appointment and the first listen to my baby's heartbeat, both sets of future grandparents came over to celebrate our bun-in-the-oven with a dinner. My dad (a family doctor) brought his Doppler for listening to fetal heartbeats so everyone could join in the fun. This is when it started to get interesting.

  1. My dad thought I looked a little too big for 10-11 weeks pregnant so thought there was something wrong with the pregnancy or I was having twins
  2. When we started listening for the heartbeat it was quite hard to locate, but we finally did find it - on the other side of my belly from where my GP had found it a few days earlier.
  3. My dad now claims (although I didn't know at the time), that he thought he heard two fetal heartbeats, but he didn't tell me that then because he didn't want to scare me, knowing we were going for an ultrasound in just a few days.
  4. Two of my best friends had dreams that I was having twins.

We joked about it that night. My mom said "two babies? hahaha that would be double trouble" in a tone that was fun-loving but dismissive of the possibility. Never-the-less the whole family was very excited about the next generation getting started and we ate merrily.
